NYLD National Young Leaders Day

On the 28th of May 2012 Muritai Schools Year 7 and 8 went to NYLD Nation Young Leaders Day on the bus. We left at 8.30am and got there at 9.30am we arrived to find lots of other schools waiting to come in to the hall to get to there seats. When it started two famous people that are presenters on shows came out and told us every thing that was going to happen and other activities. First Nick Tuatasi came out and told us about some life and death situations that have happened in his life, and even some funny moments but his main point was to tell us about SPARK. The second person was Jamie Fitzgerald who came and told us his world record about going to the south pole for 56 days with his friend Kevin Biggar from the edge to the middle, and his rowing career. His main point was, never let performance get in the way of safety, and how much effort have you put in. Third was Cassandra Treadwell who told us about her charity in Kenya who helps kids that need help from war that has happened and she has built a school, orphanage and nursery. Her main point was, believe in yourself and others will to. The fourth person was Cam Calkoen who was my favorite out of all the five people, he is a famous runner for New Zealand but has cerebral palsy which is a type of disorder which causes brain and nervous system functions such as movement, learning, hearing, seeing, and thinking. His main point is Dream big and achieve more. The last person we had was Dave Atkinson who was really funny in every ones eyes, he made a penguin out of a banana, telling us his really embarrassing story from when he went on a trip with his friends, and told us some facts for in the future. His main points were, to stick up for what's right, choose good friends, and live for others. After that we went back to school and went straight home.

The things that I think make a good leader are, living for others, believe in everything everyone says, not to boss people around, and to try and make everything right. The way I think that people could do all this is by listening to everyone and never give up. There was something that someone at the NYLD asked us, what would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? Everyone was thinking about this in there heads and I answered it like this. I would be a famous football player and never lose a game in my life.
